Jaipur's sky wore a dusky shade of gold as the sun slowly disappeared behind the magnificent sandstone palaces. Raghuvanshi Haveli shimmered beneath thousands of warm fairy lights. Fresh marigold garlands adorned every archway, floating diyas illuminated the fountains, and the soulful melody of the shehnai echoed through the royal courtyard, which had transformed into a breathtaking wedding venue fit for royalty.
Every corner reflected celebration.
Every smile carried emotion.
Because today...
The beloved daughter of the Raghuvanshi family...
Ruchi...
Was becoming a bride.
Inside the beautifully decorated bridal chamber, Ruchi sat gracefully before an antique mirror. She was dressed in a magnificent deep crimson lehenga intricately embroidered with antique gold zari work. Around her neck rested the priceless kundan necklace that had once belonged to Dadi Sa, while matching earrings, bangles, and a delicate nath completed her royal bridal look.
She looked nothing less than a queen.
Chachi gently adjusted the chain of her nose ring before lovingly caressing her cheek.
"My princess..."
"Nazar na lage meri bachchi ko."
Dadi Sa silently applied a tiny black kajal dot behind Ruchi's ear.
"Ab theek hai."
Standing behind them, Aarohi admired Ruchi through the mirror.
Her eyes slowly filled with tears.
She smiled softly.
"Bas kal tak Ru meri nanad thi..."
"...aur aaj kisi aur ke ghar ki dulhan ban rahi hai."
Ruchi immediately turned around.
A smile appeared through her own tears.
She stood up despite everyone asking her not to.
Walking straight towards Aarohi...
She wrapped her tightly in the warmest hug.
"Aaru..."
"Bhabhi sirf naam ki thi."
"Dil se tu meri sabse achhi dost thi..."
"Meri behen thi..."
"Aur hamesha rahegi."
Aarohi couldn't hold herself back anymore.
She hugged her even tighter.
"I'll miss you so much."
"Main bhi."
The room silently witnessed two sisters saying goodbye long before the actual bidaai.
Just then...
A familiar voice interrupted gently.
"Permission hai andar aane ki?"
Everyone turned.
Standing at the entrance was Maanveer.
Dressed in an elegant ivory sherwani with subtle gold embroidery, he looked every bit the royal heir of the Raghuvanshi family.
But today...
He wasn't the Maharaj.
He was simply an elder brother.
His eyes rested on Ruchi.
For a brief moment...
He saw not the bride...
But the little girl who had once followed him everywhere inside the haveli.
Without saying anything, he walked towards her.
From his pocket, he carefully took out a tiny silver pendant.
An old pendant.
One wrapped safely for years.
He placed it gently in Ruchi's trembling palm.
She looked at it.
The moment she recognised it...
Her breath hitched.
"Bhai..."
Maanveer smiled softly.
"Maa ne yeh tumhare liye sambhal kar rakha tha."
"Unhone kaha tha..."
"Jis din meri beti dulhan bane..."
"...yeh uske gale mein zaroor hona chahiye."
Ruchi burst into tears.
She clutched the pendant tightly against her heart.
No one spoke.
No one interrupted.
Because some emotions...
Never needed words.
Aarohi silently helped her wear the pendant.
As it rested beside Dadi Sa's heirloom necklace...
It felt as though her late mother had blessed her herself.
Dadi Sa wiped away her tears.
"Aaj meri bahu bhi hoti..."
"...toh kitni khush hoti."
The room fell silent once again.
Outside...
The sounds of dhol and shehnai suddenly grew louder.
One of the cousins rushed inside excitedly.
"Dulha aa gaya!"
The atmosphere instantly changed.
Smiles returned.
Excitement replaced tears.
Everyone hurried towards the grand courtyard.
Outside...
The magnificent baraat had arrived.
Rehan entered the haveli like royalty.
Dressed in a regal cream and gold sherwani adorned with emerald detailing, paired with an embroidered safa and layered pearl malas, he looked every bit the perfect groom.
His smile never left his face.
Friends surrounded him.
Family danced around him.
The dhol echoed through the entire haveli.
As he stepped beneath the grand floral entrance...
The live band began playing.
"Tenu leke main jawanga... dil de ke main lawanga..."
The younger cousins erupted into whistles.
Abhinav pulled Rehan towards the stage laughing.
"Bas jija sa, ab smile control mat karna!"
Rehan laughed.
"Control ho hi nahi rahi."
Everyone cheered.
Meanwhile...
Inside the haveli...
Ruchi slowly stepped out of her room.
Her veil shimmered beneath the crystal chandeliers.
Each step was slow.
Graceful.
Royal.
Her brothers walked proudly beside her.
As she entered the beautifully decorated courtyard...
Time itself seemed to pause.
Every eye turned towards her.
Rehan looked up.
And forgot to breathe.
For him...
There was no crowd.
No music.
No decorations.
Only her.
His bride.
Standing at the end of the aisle.
As Ruchi slowly approached the floral stage...
Rehan instinctively extended his hand.
Steady.
Patient.
Waiting only for her.
She looked at him.
Then...
Placed her delicate hand into his.
A silent smile passed between them.
One that said everything.
Together...
They climbed the stage.
The priest blessed them before handing over the beautifully decorated varmala.
Fresh white tuberoses.
Red roses.
Jasmine.
Royal orchids.
Rehan picked up his garland first.
Looking directly into Ruchi's eyes...
He gently placed it around her neck.
The crowd erupted into applause.
Now it was Ruchi's turn.
As she tried placing the garland around his neck...
Abhinav and the younger cousins mischievously lifted Rehan onto their shoulders.
"Arre!"
"Easy thodi na milega!"
Everyone burst into laughter.
Ruchi looked helplessly towards Aarohi.
Aarohi folded her arms dramatically.
"Bhai ko itna attitude kisne diya?"
Maanveer chuckled.
"Family trait."
Even Rehan laughed.
Finally...
He stepped down himself.
"Enough."
"Meri dulhan ko zyada tang mat karo."
Everyone cheered loudly.
Smiling shyly...
Ruchi finally slipped the varmala around his neck.
The very moment both garlands rested around each other's shoulders...
Thousands of rose petals showered from above.
The shehnai reached its highest note.
Conch shells echoed throughout the haveli.
The royal courtyard burst into applause.
Standing together a little away from the stage...
Aarohi quietly slipped her fingers into Maanveer's hand.
She smiled while watching the newly engaged couple.
"Dekha..."
"Ru kitni khush hai."
Maanveer smiled without taking his eyes off the stage.
"Bilkul waise hi..."
"...jaise tum thi."
"The day you walked towards me for our varmala."
Aarohi looked at him with raised eyebrows.
"Sach?"
"Hmm."
"Bas ek difference tha."
"Kya?"
"Tum mujhe dekhne se zyada ghoor rahi thi."
Aarohi lightly nudged his arm.
"I wasn't."
"You definitely were."
Both laughed softly.
Around them...
The celebrations continued.
But for those few seconds...
It was just the two of them.
Remembering the beginning of their own forever.
